Module 51: The Hacker Diet
When it comes to weight loss, we're intoxicated by the "overnight" transformation. I understand why. But it can also be very instructive to listen to accounts from people who make slow and steady progress.
I'd like to share one such story with you today. Recently a guy emailed me out of the blue and told me he lost a bunch of weight. I mis-read his email. I *THOUGHT* he said he lost 13 pounds.
I was wrong.
He lost 130 pounds.
I love talking to people who lost over 100 pounds. The reason is because I'm fascinated by the mental shift that takes place when someone decides they are going to make a massive change.
So I asked him about it and he said he used "The Hacker Diet."
Go ahead and google it -- it's free and it's essentially a computer engineer's write-up on how to lose weight. I don't think there's any surprising "magic" behind the system. But everything is tracked and managed, which is very much a "behind the scenes" secret to successful weight loss that nobody really talks about.
Weighing yourself frequently and counting calories is usually a good way to get the scale moving.
Anyway, this guy who lost 130 pounds told me the following:
* He started out by just walking 1 mile a day. Anyone can do that right? But it's a little habit likes this that establishes the rest of your day.
* He made it a point to never eat more than 1/2 or 1/3 of a meal when dining out.
* Exercise, then eat. You don't need energy bars or protein shakes to "fuel" your workout. That stuff is fine for pro athletes, not for average people trying to lose weight. (I concur).
And most important of all he said that "motivation is more important than the actual weight loss method."
Again, I agree. So while the Hacker Diet might be a little more "mainstream" than what I teach, and while I don't agree with every part of the plan, I don't think the actual method matters all that much.
If you think you could benefit from a "nerdier" approach to diet and weight loss, this might be perfect for you. Here's a link:
Enjoy and please let me know how it works for you.
