Module 46: How To Live To Age 185
And tonight's topic is definitely controversial. But I'd be doing you a massive disservice if I only talked about building muscle, burning fat and looking good on the beach. Let's face it -- life is waaaaaay too short.
Which begs the question -- does it have to be so short?
Way back in the 1930's, researchers discovered that reducing the caloric intake of rats by 30% led to an impressive increase life span. In fact, rodents that ate reduced levels of calories lived the human equivalent of 110 years old.
We don't have similar studies in humans, but to be honest it's nearly impossible to replicate this kind of study with humans as it would be unethical to starve humans.
But still, we already know what kind of life-shortening effects are to be had from over-eating so it stands to reason that under-eating can lengthen lifespan.
However, do we really have to starve ourselves each day in order to live longer?
Turns out... no. Even partial caloric restriction can have benefits. In fact, some studies are showing that partial caloric restriction can be more beneficial than full on starvation.
Recommendations: If you're one of the last few hold-outs who still hasn't tried some form of intermittent fasting, it's time to get on board. Training yourself to eat 2 meals a day with no snacks in between is an easy way to get lean without counting calories or measuring macros.
If you wish to take things to the next level, a daily 23-hour fast (eating only 1 meal per day) can erase a host of medical issues and may help extend lifespan.
But can any of this actually help you live to 185 years old? As it stand right now... no. But we're seeing new advances in medicine and science on almost a daily basis. So even if these techniques "only" extend your life by a few years, in those 'extra' few years there may be a breakthrough that broadens the lifespan of humans in a brand new way.
